Chapter 530 Pay The Price
Shi Nuan cried out in pain as she grabbed the old woman’s hand and yanked it forcefully from her arm. Then, she pulled out the syringe. Her arm was bleeding as she cast a menacing glare at the old woman. “What… What did you just inject me with?”
If she remembered correctly, Shi Wei had also tried to inject something into her body when they had a fight that day. However, she had managed to avoid it. In the beginning, Shi Nuan initially thought the syringe contained something that could render her unconscious. Now that the old woman was also attempting to give her an injection, she felt that it was something far more complicated than that.
The old woman staggered backward after being shoved away forcefully by Shi Nuan. As her eyes met Shi Nuan’s gaze, she felt somehow scared. Nevertheless, she regained her composure quickly upon noticing Shi Nuan shaking her head, her footsteps turning wobbly and unstable. Soon, Shi Nuan fell to the ground.
“Mrs. Fu?” There was a hint of pity in the old woman’s eyes, but she took a deep breath, picked up the syringe that had been pulled out by Shi Nuan, and plunged it quickly into the latter’s arm.
However, she had only administered half the fluid when she pulled the needle out, unable to continue. She said to Shi Nuan, “It all depends on your fate now!”
Meanwhile, Fu Chengyan and Su Shaoqing were closely monitoring what was happening in the villa from somewhere nearby. Su Bancheng held a pair of binoculars as he observed the men. Noticing they would change shifts every fifteen minutes, he threw a look at Su Shaoqing and said, “Take care of the people outside as fast as possible. We still don’t know if there are people inside the villa!”
“None.” Fu Chengyan shook his head. “There’s no one inside the villa.”
“How did you know about that?” Su Shaoqing was curious, but Fu Chengyan merely glanced at him briefly. Nevertheless, Fu Chengyan’s eyes unconsciously revealed his emotions. “I’m only giving you five minutes to take care of these men.”
“Okay!” Su Shaoqing rubbed his hands in anticipation while staring at the men around the villa. Having calculated the exact timing, they approached the villa from three different directions as soon as they got Fu Chengyan’s approval.
Su Shaoqing and Su Bancheng were in charge of attacking the east and the west side respectively. Each side was guarded by around twenty men. After Su Shaoqing glanced at the two subordinates behind him and waved his hand, the two seized the right timing and rushed forward to attack. They were too fast that the guards barely even saw them. In no time, a loud crack was heard as Su Shaoqing twisted a guard’s neck at lightning speed. As soon as the other man turned around to look, Su Shaoqing snapped his neck as well.
On Su Bancheng’s side, things were going smoothly as well. It was undeniable that both brothers had the same preference for snapping their opponents’ necks. They used such clean and precise technique that the opponents were dead before they even had the chance to react.
Meanwhile, Fu Chengyan had a different fighting style. He was agile, fast, and skilled with knives. Twirling a thin dagger with his long and slender fingers, Fu Chengyan approached the men and slit their necks in a swift motion. The men’s eyes widened in fear as they gazed at Fu Chengyan before clutching their necks and collapsing to the ground, not even having a chance to cry for help.
It was evident that these men were mostly bodyguards or underlings and not highly trained assassins or special agents. Therefore, after quietly eliminating all the guards outside, Fu Chengyan, Su Shaoqing, and the others successfully entered the villa.
It was exactly what Fu Chengyan had predicted. Aside from the group of men guarding the outside, there was no one inside the villa. Hence, they were basically safe and sound after taking down those men.
Fu Chengyan glanced at both Su Shaoqing and Su Bancheng, and the three of them tacitly understood each other as they split up to search the rooms.
As expected, there were no communication devices in the villa, not even the most basic ones. The moment Fu Chengyan opened the door to a room, he saw Shi Nuan lying on the floor. A pang of sorrow and shock surged within his heart as he rushed over quickly to carry her. “May?”
“Chengyan, I caught someone!” Su Shaoqing said as he pulled the old woman along with him. When he noticed Fu Chengyan holding an unconscious Shi Nuan, he asked, “What happened? Let me take a look at her!”
Leaving the old woman to Su Bancheng, Su Shaoqing rushed toward Shi Nuan and reached out to touch her forehead. Upon feeling its feverish warmth, he shifted his attention toward Shi Nuan’s arms and started checking them urgently. His face darkened when he noticed a puncture on her arm. “Chengyan, I think… Shi Nuan might have been injected with something.”
Just as he finished speaking, Su Shaoqing sensed an icy cold aura surrounding him. Fu Chengyan’s eyes were filled with menace and anger as he glared at the old woman coldly. “What did you inject her with?”
“I…”
At first, the old woman intended to flee after giving Shi Nuan the injection, but she did not expect Fu Chengyan and his men to arrive sooner than the time frame her boss had given her. Just when she was about to run off after the injection, she witnessed the guards downstairs being eliminated swiftly. Worried that she might be slain as well, she quickly hid in a room, but she was still found by Su Shaoqing in the end.
As her eyes met Fu Chengyan’s malicious gaze, the old woman was unable to utter a word.
“So you won’t speak? Shaoqing, take her away. I have plenty of ways to make her talk!” With that, Fu Chengyan carefully held Shi Nuan in his arms and left the villa in a hurry.
Su Bancheng watched as Fu Chengyan left quickly. Then, he glanced around before going downstairs as well.
Instantly, his men cleaned up the place and disposed of the bodies in the villa. Now, it looked as if nothing had happened there.
At three o’clock in the morning, Fu Chengyan and Su Shaoqing rushed Shi Nuan from Sheen City to Jiang City and brought her to Su Shaoqing’s hospital.
Realizing the severity of the problem, Su Shaoqing summoned several of their doctors who were involved in researching the virus and brought them into the emergency room.
Soon, the news that Shi Nuan had been saved but was still unconscious made its way quickly around the Fu clan and the Su family, who immediately rushed to the hospital afterward. In the meantime, Fu Chengyan sat by the hallway in the hospital, staring anxiously at the entrance of the emergency room. No one knew how long he had been there, but they could sense the icy aura emanating from within him.
Su Shaoqing finally emerged from the emergency room at five in the morning. He took off his mask and walked toward Fu Chengyan with an exhausted look. “The babies are safe, and Nuan is temporarily fine. I’ve drawn some blood from her to perform some tests.” As he spoke, he glanced at the large crowd of people behind him and rubbed his temples. “They all found out?”
Fu Chengyan shook his head and stood up to pat Su Shaoqing on his shoulder. “Thanks for your hard work. It’s better not to let people know that May had been injected with the virus.” At least for now.
Su Shaoqing nodded. “I know.” It was not known whether the virus had really been injected into Shi Nuan’s body, to what extent the virus had spread, and whether it would affect the fetus. As nothing has been confirmed yet, he could not tell them anything hastily. If the Fu clan and the Su family found out that Shi Nuan had been injected with a drug, they would surely panic.
“Just tell them Nuan got spooked and nothing else. She’ll be sent to the ward in a while, and she’ll probably wake up tomorrow.”
Fu Chengyan nodded. “Got it!”
Su Shaoqing let out a sigh. “I’ll have someone run a test on the blood sample and see what the heck they injected her with.”
After Su Shaoqing was gone, Shi Nuan was pushed out of the emergency room. Seeing that, the Fu clan and the Su family hurried forward. “How is she now, Yan?”
Song Zhenyan was the first to speak up. She had been feeling terrible over Shi Nuan’s kidnapping. She could not sleep or eat well ever since that happened. Things would not have turned out this way if she had accompanied Shi Nuan or dissuaded the latter from going.
Fu Chengyan glanced at Song Zhenyan with a weary expression. “It’s all right. Shaoqing said that Shi Nuan is fine. She’ll wake up tomorrow.” He massaged his temples and looked at the people behind him. Spotting Fu Zhengyun and Su Yumin among them, he went over and told them, “She’s all right. You must be tired after coming here in the middle of the night. Why don’t you guys just head home for now? I’ll take care of May.”
“That won’t do!” Su Yunwan and Lin Shuqin protested. “You’ve done so much to look for Nuan. You should go and rest instead. Your aunt and I will stay and look after Nuan,” Lin Shuqin offered.
However, Fu Chengyan shook his head. “It’s okay. I’ll stay here and keep May company. You guys can come back tomorrow.”
Lin Shuqin was about to say something when Su Huaibei stopped her. “Shuqin, if Yan wants to stay and keep Nuan company, let him do so.”
Su Huaibei could see how much his son-in-law valued his daughter. He was confident that Fu Chengyan would rather injure himself than allow Shi Nuan to get hurt. Since Fu Chengyan insisted on looking after Shi Nuan, they did not say anything further.
“All right, then. If that’s the case, let’s all just go home now!”
After the head of the Fu clan and the Su family had spoken, everyone obeyed and left.
Fu Chengyan remained in the hallway for quite some time before heading toward Shi Nuan’s ward.
He stood at the head of the bed. The sun was slowly rising, and as a glimmer of light filtered through the room, Fu Chengyan stared at Shi Nuan’s slightly pale face.
Shi Nuan had disappeared for two days. During that time, he acted normally, moving with his plans accordingly. However, he now felt like he was quite a jerk.
He should not have risked Shi Nuan’s life. Instead, he should have gone looking for her as soon as she vanished, rather than wait until he found her lying unconsciously on the ground.
As Fu Chengyan clenched his fists tightly, his sharp, piercing gaze was fixated on Shi Nuan. He could not take his eyes off her. If he was given another chance, he would stay by her side and never let her leave his sight for even a moment.
At that moment, his phone rang abruptly. Fu Chengyan picked it up, placing the phone next to his ear. “What is it?”
“Chengyan, we’ve managed to trace a series of the perpetrator’s IP addresses, but the location is an abandoned area. Looks like they came prepared!” Pei Jingxiu’s voice was heard over the phone. He paused for a moment before adding, “Shaoqing told me that Shi Nuan had been injected with the virus. Was it the same one that Pei Huan was injected with?”
As soon as he said those words, Pei Jingxiu heard a cold voice from the other side of the line. “Yes. I’d like to ask for your help in locating the perpetrator’s whereabouts as quickly as possible.” Anyone who dared to harm Fu Chengyan’s loved one would pay dearly for their actions.
