Chapter 531 No Suffering Anymore
Shi Nuan felt that she had an extremely long dream. In the dream, she saw a man with a mask and an old woman. The old woman injected her with something, which made her fall into unconsciousness.
“Ahh!” Upon opening her eyes abruptly, all she could see was the white ceiling about her. She widened her eyes as various scenes flashed through her mind. The ceiling seemed different from that of the room she had been locked up in. Moreover, she could vaguely smell the scent of medicine. Am I in the hospital?
Turning her head around, she saw a shadow looming over her.
“Are you awake?” A clear yet tired voice sounded as a hand touched her forehead. She kept blinking her eyes and tried to clear her thoughts.
Finally, the warm touch on her forehead made her come back to reality. She stared at the man in front of her, her eyes welling up with tears. “Yan!”
She sat up from her bed and frantically wrapped her arms around Fu Chengyan’s waist tightly. Then, she buried her head in his embrace, unwilling to let go.
When Shi Nuan let out a scream earlier, Fu Chengyan had run to her side. The moment he saw her opening her eyes, his decadent heart came alive again. He embraced her, saying, “I’m sorry, May. It’s all my fault.”
“No.” Shi Nuan shook her head. “I knew you would come to rescue me. I knew it.” That was why she was not scared at all. She knew he would come for her at all costs.
Unbeknownst to her, her words made Fu Chengyan feel even more guilty. “It’s my fault, May. If I stayed with you, this would not have happened.”
“Yan, please don’t say that.” Pursing her lips, Shi Nuan pushed Fu Chengyan away and straightened her back. “Look at me. I’m fine!”
Despite saying so, she glanced at her belly instinctively before touching her own arm. “Yan, how did you find me? How long have I been asleep?”
By then, the puncture in her arm was no longer visible. She was not sure what the old woman had injected her with before she fell unconscious. ”Yan, Shi Wei was the one who wanted to capture me on the day I called you from the hospital.”
“I know,” Shi Nuan responded hoarsely while he hugged her even tighter. A while later, just as Shi Nuan felt like suffocating from his hold, he loosened his grip. “Are you hungry? Do you want to eat something?”
Shi Nuan shook her head. “I’m fine.”
“You should eat something, though.” Upon saying that, Fu Chengyan made a call to Su Shaoqing, asking him to come to check on her. After that, he called Zhou Zheng and told him to prepare some food.
Shortly after, Su Shaoqing came and checked on Shi Nuan. “Since she’s awake, it means there’s no big issue. To be safe, she should stay here for a few days for further observation.” Su Shaoqing looked at Fu Chengyan as he spoke.
As Fu Chengyan hesitated momentarily, Shi Nuan seemed to notice something was off. “Is there anything wrong?”
“It’s nothing.” Fu Chengyan lowered his voice while shaking his head calmly. “I’m just worried because you went missing for days. Listen to Shaoqing and stay here for a few more days, okay?”
“Okay.” Shi Nuan nodded as she shifted her gaze toward Su Shaoqing. “By the way, Shaoqing. My babies are fine, right?”
“Yes. You’re very healthy, and there’s nothing wrong with your babies!” Su Shaoqing looked at Shi Nuan earnestly, but his smile was a bit playful. “Listen, Chengyan nearly beat me to death because you won’t wake up! Nuan, don’t you think your husband is being too much? After all, I’m considered his brother-in-law, ain’t I?”
Amused by Su Shaoqing’s behavior, Shi Nuan burst into loud laughter. “That’s between you and Yan. It has nothing to do with me!”
“That’s enough!” Fu Chengyan displayed a helpless smile before glancing at Su Shaoqing. “We’ll stay in the hospital for a few more days then.”
“Oh, right!” Just then, Shi Nuan seemed to recall something. “How did you guys find me?”
“Why?” Fu Chengyan locked his eyes on her. “Is there anything you want to tell me?”
Biting her lips, Shi Nuan pondered for a while. “Shi Wei didn’t kill Su Su. She came to me that day to argue with me because she wanted to take me away. However, it wasn’t her idea. I suspect that someone is using her. Nonetheless, the man in black didn’t take her after he took me away that day.”
“Yes, she’s with me now.” Fu Chengyan cleared Shi Nuan’s doubt. “Is there anything else?”
“The man in black took me to a mansion, but they didn’t do anything to me and even gave me food and drinks. I also saw a man wearing a mask; the old woman calls him Mr. J. I’ve talked to him, and he is the mastermind behind everything—the Shi family’s incident, my grandfather’s death, and Huancheng’s shortfall. Regardless, I can’t figure out why he’s going after the Shi family, and why he captured me.” After all, he did not hurt her.
Touching her arm slightly, she added, “By the way, before I blacked out, the old woman injected something into my arm. I fainted after that.”
Fu Chengyan and Su Shaoqing exchanged looks. They had an idea about what had happened, but still, none of them said anything.
Indeed, what Shi Nuan recounted was similar to what they had found out. “The man was wearing a mask?”
Shi Nuan nodded. “Yes, he was wearing a mask made of silver. Plus, he used a voice changer when talking to me, so I couldn’t guess his identity. If he used a voice changer, could that mean he’s someone I know?”
While Fu Chengyan narrowed his eyes, Su Shaoqing patted his thigh and responded, “That’s right. Why didn’t I think of this? Who could he be though?”
“Let’s think about it later. Are you hungry?” Fu Chengyan uttered.
Soon after, Zhou Zheng brought lunch over as per Fu Chengyan’s order.
“Mr. Fu, Mrs. Fu.” As he walked in, Zhou Zheng was relieved to see that Shi Nuan was finally awake. “Mr. Fu. I did what you told me and brought Mrs. Fu’s favorite food.” They were some light dishes.
Nodding, Fu Chengyan took the lunch box from Zhou Zheng. A few seconds later, he furrowed his brows as he saw Zhou Zheng still standing there. “What? Are you not going to leave?”
Regaining his senses, Zhou Zheng reported, “Mr. Fu, Mr. Li is back,”
Li Heng is back?
“Mr. Li and Bao are at the Li residence now. They said they would come here later.” As Zhou Zheng spoke, he observed Fu Chengyan closely. “They want to discuss the vi-”
Before he could finish his sentence, Fu Chengyan shot him a furious glare. Seeing that, he quickly changed his words. “Mrs. Li and Bao want to see Mrs. Fu!”
At that instant, Fu Chengyan narrowed his eyes. “Okay, I got it.”
Zhou Zheng’s entire body was stiff with fear as he was worried that he might offend Fu Chengyan and get kicked by the latter. He still remembered how Fu Chengyan had kicked Jiang Hu several times the other day. As a matter of fact, Jiang Hu was stronger than Zhou Zheng, yet he was still in pain after suffering Fu Chengyan’s kicks.
“Mr. Fu, I’ll excuse myself then.” Upon saying that, Zhou Zheng left without delay. Leaning against Shi Nuan’s bed, Su Shaoqing snickered. “Chengyan, look at you. Your subordinates are terrified of you.”
Fu Chengyan lifted his head and swept his gaze over Su Shaoqing coldly. “Get lost!”
“Damn it!” Su Shaoqing could not help but curse. “How could you be so ungrateful?” He’s the living example of an ingrate! The next moment, Su Shaoqing turned to Shi Nuan. “Look at your husband. Is this the proper way to treat his brother-in-law? Nuan, you have to teach him a lesson.”
Fu Chengyan clenched his fists tightly, making cracking sounds with his knuckles. “Are you leaving or not?”
“Sure! Right away!” With that, Su Shaoqing retreated with his medical records in hand.
Shi Nuan could not help but utter, “Yan.”
“Yes?”
“Shaoqing is still my brother, after all.” She meant for Fu Chengyan to be nicer to the man.
Fu Chengyan raised his brows. “And I’m your husband.”
“Fine.” She could not refute that. Rubbing her belly, she continued, “I’m starving.” Hearing that, Fu Chengyan brought her the lunch box. After opening it, he sat down beside her. “Open your mouth.”
She stared at him shyly before tugging at his sleeves. “I can eat by myself.”
“Let me feed you.” He sounded utterly gentle as he pinched her cheek lightly. “I haven’t seen you for just a few days, and you’ve lost weight already.”
“All right then.” Shi Nuan was aware of that. Even though Mr. J had prepared good food for her, she barely had any appetite since she was kidnapped. Naturally, her appetite returned now that she had been rescued.
Fu Chengyan fed her tenderly. In no time, she finished almost everything in the lunch box.
He still wanted to feed her more, but she shook her head and complained, “No more. I’m too full.”
“Have some more soup then.” He handed the spoon to her. “Come on, be good.”
Only after watching her finish the soup did he stop urging her. He took a napkin and wiped her mouth carefully, as though he was doing something important.
Feeling his rough fingers rubbing slightly against her lips, Shi Nuan grabbed his hand. “Yan, thank you.”
His eyes flickered slightly. “Why are you thanking me?”
“Thank you for saving me and taking care of me. Thank-” Before she could finish her words, Fu Chengyan reached out and put a finger to her mouth. Blinking a few times, she stared at him with befuddlement. “What?”
Fu Chengyan gulped but eventually shook his head. “Nothing. I promise you that I’ll be by your side from now on. I won’t let you get hurt anymore!”
