After hanging up the call with Jasper, Celine sat in the office and pondered for a while. Then, she pressed the phone on the desk and told the secretary outside that no one and nothing should disturb her for the next hour. After doing all this, Celine took out another cell phone and dialed a number.
Soon, the call went through.
“Father…”
Celine was addressing the person on the other end very formally and seriously. It was a bit less casual for a family, and more rigorous and rigid.
“Celine.”
On the other end of the phone, a middle-aged man’s calm and heavy voice could be heard.
“What happened?”
Celine replied, “It should be late at night on your side. I’m sorry to disturb you at this hour.”
“It’s okay, I actually just lied down and haven’t fallen asleep yet.” The man on the other end of the phone seemed to be used to Celine’ s respectful yet distant attitude.
Celine paused before saying, “Earlier, I received a call from Jasper.”
“Well, I know that you have been in contact with Jasper. At first, I was opposed to it. After all, the status and identity of our family make it inappropriate for us to have too much contact with anyone in Somerland, but now it seems that your investment might net you some unexpected returns.”
Celine said calmly, “This is not just an investment, Father.”
“You mean you want to tell me that you want something more to happen with him?” On the other end of the phone, the man seemed a little dissatisfied.
Celine gritted her teeth. “Father, I have been away from the family for many years and now and I have my own job. I think I can have my own independent social circle that’s different from what you intend!”
“Heh, if you have this ability, then you can just take care of your fiancé by yourself. Why do you need your family to come forward? Otherwise, do you think he would be so easy to provoke?” The voice of the man on the phone was full of disdain.
“I told you I wouldn’t accept that marriage. You people forced it on me!”
“It’s fine if you forced it on me, as the Maynards gave birth to me and raised me so I should contribute to the family. I’ve paid for the living expenses and accommodation fees for so many years, but since our contract is over, I hope you won’t mention that incident again, father!”
The man on the other side of the phone stayed silent for a while after he heard Celine’s heated voice. Then, he said, “Did you call me to talk about that kind of thing?”
After taking a deep breath and calming her emotions, Celine said, “Jasper planned to get into contact with Sentel Corporation. However, I have no idea how he learned that Sentel was in contact with us. He hopes to get our support in United States politics.”
“He hopes to get enough chips from us to negotiate with Sentel Corporation.”
“Introducing Sentel into the game? That’s an interesting idea.”
The man on the other end of the phone sounded become slightly more alert.
“Back then, he tried to involve Softwin, and now he wants to rope in Sentel. The situation will become ambiguous once a friend and an enemy join the game. How interesting, very interesting. Haha!”
Celine sensed that the man’s tone was still reasonable, so she hurriedly asked, “So, does this mean you will talk to him?”
