Chapter 597 I Am The Father To Your Son
Fu Chengyan opened the car door and alighted from the vehicle. Jiang Hu, who was in the driver’s seat all the while, could not watch any further. He finally understood why Zhou Zheng was unwilling to work for Fu Chengyan anymore.
By the same token, Jiang Hu could now fully comprehend what Zhou Zheng meant and how he must have felt when he grumbled about Fu Chengyan’s incessant public displays of affection. Jiang Hu was an old country bumpkin. He could not understand Zhou Zheng initially, but he fully understood what Zhou Zheng meant that day.
Fu Chengyan was being really flirtatious, and it was torturous for Jiang Hu, who was single, to watch. After alighting from the vehicle, Fu Chengyan held his hand out. “Come!”
Shi Nuan reached out slowly. Fu Chengyan took her hand and helped her out of the vehicle. As she stepped out of the vehicle, Fu Chengyan protectively reminded her to watch her step.
Jiang Hu felt that the macho image he had of Fu Chengyan had completely crumbled at that point, and he was no longer able to look Fu Chengyan directly in the eye from then on.
In front of his subordinates, the stern and ruthless Fu Chenyan definitely did not look like the wife’s slave that he was now.
However, Fu Chengyan did not care about his image in front of these subordinates now. In his mind, the most important people right now were no one except his wife and his unborn baby.
Shen Qianan actually regained consciousness the next day she was admitted to the hospital, but she could still feel the effect of the anesthetic in her hand which explained the numbness there. It was only on the third day that Shen Qianan could begin to feel the sensation of pain.
Meanwhile, Fu Sijue had been by Shen Qianan’s side all this while.
Shen Qianan felt ambivalent when she saw Fu Sijue again. She did not know how to react to him, so she maintained her silence and pretended not to know anything.
She was also unsure about the relationship between Fu Sijue, Fu Chengyan, and the Fu clan at that moment. The last thing she could remember was Fu Min being shot to death at the cemetery. She could not remember anything after that.
While in the hospital, Su Shaoqing and Huo Ling frequently examined Shen Qianan’s condition. However, Shen Qianan did not allow them to inform Shi Nuan as she did not want Shi Nuan to worry about her.
While she gradually awoke from her sleep that day, Shen Qianan saw Fu Sijue, who had remained in the same spot, reading a children’s book with much interest. She knew that the book which was brought over by Huo Ling a couple of days ago belonged to Yu.
Fu Sijue put down the book immediately when he saw that Shen Qianan was awake. “You’re awake. Are you thirsty? Do you want to have something to eat?” Fu Sijue helped Shen Qianan sit up and placed a pillow behind her. Then he looked at her again and asked, “What do you feel like eating?”
Shen Qianan frowned slightly and looked at Fu Sijue. “I’m fine. In fact, you don’t have to be here all the time.” Fu Sijue had stayed in the ward for those few days and never left. His change of clothes had been brought to him by the Yun family’s housekeepers in a suitcase that was placed in a corner in the ward.
In truth, Shen Qianan wanted Fu Sijue to leave because she did not know how to react to him. However, it was obvious that Fu Sijue was oblivious to how she felt, and Shen Qianan was left with no option but to tell him to leave when she could no longer bear it.
As soon as Shen Qianan finished speaking, the atmosphere in the ward turned to the kind of icy atmosphere that she detested.
The frigid cold aura that Fu Sijue exuded, however, did not last long. Quickly, he restrained himself when he saw how unhappy Shen Qianan was and said, “You’re hurt. You need someone to watch over you.” What he was actually trying to tell her was that he wanted to take care of her, and there was no way she could make him leave.
Shen Qianan then raised her head to look at Fu Sijue. “There are caregivers in this hospital. There are doctors and nurses around too. The housekeeper will also be coming over.” Shen Qianan had now made it abundantly clear to Fu Sijue that he was not wanted around, and there was nothing he could do for her there.
Fu Sijue understood perfectly what Shen Qianan meant. However, he was not bothered by that. All he did was smile slightly and look at Shen Qianan. “You’re still sick, and I don’t trust that they’ll watch over you properly.”
“You…” Shen Qianan was suddenly tongue-tied. Feeling exasperated, Shen Qianan turned away and refused to look at Fu Sijue.
A glint of dejection flashed across Fu Sijue’s eyes, which again quickly disappeared. “Qian, you can chase me away. But only after you have fully recovered.”
Shen Qianan turned to face him. “Aren’t you busy? What about the Fu clan? What’s your explanation for the Yun family? How do you plan to have your showdown with the Fu clan? Fu Min is your biological father. He’s dead. Don’t you have any opinion regarding his death? Have you ever thought about the reason he was so interested in the Fu clan’s assets? Furthermore, you belong to the Fu clan. Yet you…”
“You are worried about me?” From Shen Qianan’s barrage of words, Fu Sijue only picked up that she seemed worried. As he repeated those five words to himself, a smile flashed across his face, and he said, “You’re concerned about me!”
Shen Qianan was suddenly at a loss for words. She felt she could not communicate with Fu Sijue. He had completely misunderstood her. Shen Qianan thought she had been clear enough to him. She wanted him to leave her alone and that he was not needed there.
Shen Qianan could not understand how Fu Sijue came to the conclusion that she was concerned about him after her barrage of questions.
“No!”
“Yes!” Fu Sijue was smiling as he replied to her. “Qian, I know this is you showing concern for me!”
“I told you. I’m not!” Shen Qianan felt her temples begin to ache. “Fu Sijue, don’t be so full of yourself. Who do you think you are in my eyes? Why should I be concerned about you?”
“I am the father to your son!” he exclaimed with a sparkle in his eyes.
Shen Qianan was completely shocked by his words. “Yu is mine!”
“You can’t get pregnant without me. Do you think you can give birth to a child without me?” Fu Sijue felt that Shen Qianan looked attractive when she was mad. He found her red and puffy face very pleasing.
Shen Qianan almost laughed in exasperation when she saw how serious Fu Sijue was. “Your contribution was just one sperm. Just that. Nothing else. I carried Yu for ten months and gave birth to him. He is my everything. It doesn’t matter who he decides to follow.” Fu Sijue could clearly see Shen Qianan’s fear of losing Yu to him.
Fu Sijue’s eyes suddenly darkened. He pressed his throbbing temples and looked at Shen Qianan. “Qian, I know you hate me. You hate me for what I did years ago. I don’t know if it is too late, but if there’s a future for us, I’ll be by your side once I’ve resolved those matters. I will atone for my mistakes, and time will prove everything. You are my everything.”
Shen Qianan chest suddenly felt empty. She could not understand what she was feeling. It was strange and suffocating. Her fingers started trembling, but she covered it so that Fu Sijue would not notice it. She glared at Fu Sijue. “What do you mean? What future? You may even be dead soon, and you’re thinking about the future?”
Perhaps Shen Qianan did not notice the tremble in her voice when she continued, “Fu Sijue, don’t make promises that you can’t keep.” Shen Qianan was really tired of empty promises.
Shen Qianan thought the matter between Fu Sijue, Fu Chengyan, and the Fu clan would be concluded following the death of Fu Min. Despite that, Shen Qianan did not know what kind of conclusion it was and did not know what it meant too.
Shen Qianan was afraid that this was going to be the last time that she was going to see him.
Fu Sijue was also jolted back to his senses by Shen Qianan’s words. He had actually waited for Shen Qianan to talk to him over the past few days. However, he did not expect her to say the words she just did.
Shen Qianan must have realized how she was acting out of character, for she quickly recollected herself and asked Fu Sijue without looking at him, “Where’s Yu?”
“With Bao at Wutong Residence. They’re really close to each other.”
There was also a sparkle in Fu Sijue’s eyes when he mentioned Yu. Shen Qianan saw the smile on Fu Sijue’s face from the corner of her eyes. It was a look of surprise that very quickly faded back to normal.
Yu was also his son, so it was natural for him to have feelings for Yu. He was also reading a children’s book earlier, and Shen Qianan knew it was done in an effort to make Yu happy.
Shen Qianan lowered her head. In a flash, they had once again fallen into an impasse. As Fu Sijue was always at the center of attention and never needed to consider the emotions and feelings of Shen Qianan, he had always compelled her tyrannically to do as he wished. Therefore, as things stood between them, Fu Sijue did not know how he should communicate with Shen Qianan.
Shi Nuan and Fu Chengyan had actually arrived at the hospital a long time ago. However, Fu Chengyan stopped Shi Nuan from entering the ward after she saw how Shen Qianan and Fu Sijue acted from outside the ward. “It’s a matter between the husband and wife. Why are you so agitated?”
“What husband and wife? They were never married to each other,” Shi Nuan could not help but rebut Fu Chengyan. “Furthermore, I have no idea how Fu Sijue feels about Shen Qianan. Move! I’m going in. What if he’s bullying her?” Shi Nuan had wholeheartedly treated Shen Qianan as her sister ever since the incident that befell Shi Wei occurred. Shi Nuan had always desired a biological older sister who would treat her really nice when she was a young child. This wish, however, could not possibly be fulfilled by Shi Wei. But she could not possibly be ungrateful for Shen Qianan now that her wish could be fulfilled by Shen Qianan.
Fu Chengyan felt powerless as he stopped Shi Nuan. “They still have Yu, their son. There is still a chance for them to be a family in the future.” In Fu Chengyan’s eyes, Fu Sijue’s feelings for Shen Qianan were real.
Shi Nuan puffed out her cheeks and then said, “All you men are the same! Bullies!” Shi Nuan felt sure that Fu Sijue was bullying Shen Qianan.
Fu Chengyan looked annoyingly at Shi Nuan, throwing a tantrum. “What do you mean by all you men are the same? What’s the same? Am I not being nice enough to you?” he asked as he pinched Shi Nuan’s nose.
Realizing she had said something wrong, Shi Nuan pouted as she uttered, “You’re different. You’re very nice indeed. But can you say the same for every other man?”
“Hmph!” Fu Chengyan sighed. “Shen Qianan is not a little girl. Don’t you want Shen Qianan to find her happily ever after and give Yu a complete family?”
