Chapter 574 Violating A Taboo Of Pei Jingxiu
Fu Sijue’s car stopped at the hospital’s entrance for a long while in the darkness. At last, it finally drove away under the moonlight. The situation of him waiting in front of the entrance was reported by the hidden guards to Fu Chengyan. Actually, Fu Chengyan had already seen the car parked in front of the hospital through the surveillance monitor.
His gaze was fixated on the monitor’s footage while he sank deep into his thoughts. After a long while, his lips curled into a faint smile as his eyes glimmered with a hint of light.
He didn’t expect Fu Sijue to be so caring and passionate about Qianan to even risk his life to come all the way to the hospital. After all, the hospital was full of Fu Chengyan’s moles. If Fu Chengyan didn’t sit here and had decided to arrest Fu Sijue instead, the matter would end immediately at that point.
Soon, the ward’s door was pushed open. Su Shaoqing stood in front of the door. He had been staying at the hospital these few days ever since taking over Shen Qianan’s case. Other than him, Su Shaoqing had never left the hospital as well. Besides, Huo Ling was also there.
Huo Ling had been spending her days conducting research about the virus on Shen Qianan and Shi Nuan. Su Shaoqing accompanied her.
“What are you looking at?” Su Shaoqing walked closer to Fu Chengyan and noticed the latter staring at the monitor. Yet, there was already no sign of Fu Sijue since a while ago. “Found anything new?”
Fu Chengyan shifted his attention away from the monitor and looked at the document in Su Shaoqing’s hands. “Are they any updates?”
“We only discovered the contents of the viral solution, but we don’t know how to cure it yet. I’ve used this information and compared it to the viruses that already exist. I realized this virus is extremely strong, and there isn’t an antidote to it yet. It currently only exists in Frosa, so I’m sending someone to visit Frosa and find out who was the culprit behind the virus.” This is such a troublesome situation.
Fu Chengyan nodded. “Keep up the good work!” With that, he lowered his head again and took another document beside him to read through it.
Su Shaoqing wasn’t interested in Fu Chengyan’s business-related issues, and he couldn’t understand them that well either. “Take your time and read through your documents. I’ll return to my lab and continue with the research.” Suddenly, he paused mid-sentence before continuing, “By the way, you’ve been staying at the hospital for such a long time. Nuan’s health isn’t too unstable currently. Are you seriously not considering moving back to your home? You know that my hospital has been closed for quite a while, right? I’m afraid I’ll have to close the hospital permanently if this goes on!”
Su Shaoqing looked at Fu Chengyan. You have been treating the hospital like your home, and you’re spending your entire day here!
Fu Chengyan’s stay had caused the elders in the Su family to complain to him, saying they weren’t allowed to visit Nuan and Qianan. Recently, Su Shaoqing would receive calls from the Su family’s members and friends daily.
He felt extremely troubled by it. This entire situation really has very little to do with me! These are all Fu Chengyan’s instructions. He was the one who said Shi Nuan’s sickness isn’t stable yet, and he said the situation is dangerous recently. Hence, he prohibited the Su family and the Fu clan to visit her.
Su Shaoqing had already complained about this matter with Fu Chengyan multiple times, but the latter ignored him and didn’t think of it as too big of a deal.
“Please, at least answer me. I think they’ll be fine resting and recovering at home. After all, Huo Ling’s acupuncture skills don’t just work in a hospital building.”
Fu Chengyan narrowed his eyes. “Looks like I’m not welcome here at all!”
“No, don’t say that. Nuan and Qianan are members of the Su family, after all. They are my sisters, so I would never dislike them! Yet, don’t you want to consider my suggestion more seriously? You being here is a waste of resources!” Su Shaoqing was almost begging Fu Chengyan at that point. “Actually, I don’t mind you being a wealthy fool!”
“Shaoqing, you’ve just told me that May and Qianan are your sisters, and now you’re talking about money with me?” Fu Chengyan mocked and raised one brow, to which Su Shaoqing replied with a sorrowful expression, “I’ve made a mistake. I don’t want your money, and I’ll even pay for your expenses instead. Please leave. I beg you.”
Hearing that, Fu Chengyan smiled. “All right. I’ll have someone gather my belongings within these two days and leave after that.”
Su Shaoqing finally felt relieved when he heard Fu Chengyan’s statement. “Sure. I’ll find someone to help you pack right now. We don’t need two days for that! I’ll handle it by today!” Su Shaoqing even whistled as he skipped away gleefully.
Fu Chengyan rubbed his temples and felt slightly helpless. However, he quickly regained his composure and browsed through some recent information regarding Shengyuan Group.
Lately, Pei Jingxiu had been secretly handling the internal issues in Shengyuan Group. Most of those issues had already been resolved. Yet, Fu Chengyan didn’t want to take any action right now. He wanted to see how many people in hiding Fu Sijue could draw out.
Then, he could use this opportunity to revamp the organizational structure and employees in Shengyuan Group to eliminate future problems.
Fu Chengyan scanned through the stack of documents. Soon, he had his attention fixated on the overseas department and the finance department.
His gaze darkened as he took out his phone and efficiently drafted an email. After editing his message, he sent the message to Pei Jingxiu.
Meanwhile, Pei Jingxiu had just completed his tasks when he saw Fu Chengyan’s email. There were only a few simple words written in the contents: Keep these two people around.
Reading that, a dash of ruthlessness filled Pei Jingxiu’s long eyes. He swiftly replied with one word: Ok. Then, he kept his phone away and lifted his head in response to the distant gaze in front of him. Softly, he asked in a distant tone, “Is there anything else?”
Ning Xi frowned slightly and responded, “Mr. Pei, it’s time to take your medicine.” Her voice was soft, and it seemed like she was used to Pei Jingxiu’s coldness.
She held a cup of water in one hand and the cap of a medicine bottle in the other. There were a few pills in the bottle cap. “Mr. Pei, here’s some water.”
However, Pei Jingxiu merely stared at her icily. “Didn’t I tell you to go to Sheen City?”
She kept the same actions as just now and raised her head stubbornly without speaking.
Seeing that, Pei Jingxiu knitted his brows together. Although his expression didn’t appear to have changed, people who had been around him long enough would know that was a sign of his anger. However, Ning Xi didn’t take any action and simply looked at him. “Mr. Pei, you’ve not fully recovered from your sickness yet.”
“Ning Xi, I’ve said it before. It’s time for you to return. I don’t wish to speak about this for the second time!” His tone was chilly and emotionless.
Her usual stern expression stiffened as she looked at him unnaturally. Yet, she immediately tightened her grip on the glass of water and took a deep breath. “I will leave as soon as you recover from your sickness!”
“Are you negotiating with me?” Pei Jingxiu stared at Ning Xi intensely, “So, you won’t leave if I don’t take my medicine?”
Ning Xi felt her fingers shivering, but she nodded seriously. “I’ll leave as soon as you take your medicine and recover from the sickness. At the very least, don’t make me leave right now.”
At the end of her sentence, she handed the glass of water to him again. “Mr. Pei, your health is important. You haven’t been resting well these few days.”
Pei Jingxiu stared at her persistent face and scoffed abruptly. He stood up and leaned his slender figure toward her, towering over her with his pressuring existence. He held her chin up with his long fingers, and his icy gaze met with her plain face. However, the words that came out of his mouth were like sharp knives that stabbed right into her heart. “Did you forget that you’re merely a pawn and a tool for me? Ning Xi, even your name was given to you by me. Do not forget your identity!”
Ning Xi’s face turned pale after hearing his remarks. She clenched her fists and lowered her hands beside her restlessly. She looked at him and felt his eyes were too frozen, and there wasn’t a sign of emotion in those dark orbs.
She lowered her eyes and replied, “Yes, Mr. Pei. I’ve always known my place. If it wasn’t for you, I won’t even know where I’ll be now.”
With that, Ning Xi returned to her usual stance, and the gaze she had while looking at Pei Jingxiu had become as stony as his.
Pei Jingxiu furrowed his brow. When he saw Ning Xi’s expression, there was a slight glimmer that flashed across his eyes, but it disappeared in the next second. “Go back immediately!”
“Yes, Mr. Pei.”
She put the glass and medicine down, then turned around and left without hesitation.
However, Pei Jingxiu stood there. He clenched a fist and pressed it against the tabletop, but took over the glass and medicine with the other hand. He then swallowed the medicine quickly.
After exiting Pei Jingxiu’s place, Ning Xi felt an icy sensation in her entire being. It was a coldness that was digging straight into her bones, and she hadn’t felt this way in a long while. She had been living such a peaceful life recently, almost causing her to forget how she used to survive in the past and overlook her identity.
Suddenly, Ning Xi thought she was a ridiculous joke. Perhaps it was too funny for her, so she actually burst into laughter. After a long while, a series of faint footsteps sounded behind her. Her instincts and training allowed her to get on guard instantly and turn around. She then looked at the woman behind her coldly.
“Ning Xi, Mr. Pei wants me to remind you not to forget who you are.”
Ning Xi tightened her fist. “How will I forget? We are all people who escaped hell, and it is difficult to forget that for the rest of our lives.” She stared at the woman’s face while speaking.
The woman looked at Ning Xi and snorted. “It’s great that you still remember who you are.”
Ning Xi pressed her lips together and replied, “I know it all too well. So, you’re not the one who can lecture me about it!”
The woman raised one brow, expressing her disagreement with Ning Xi’s statement. “We came from the same place, after all. There are certain things that I’d like to remind you of. Mr. Pei isn’t someone that we can set our eyes on. Since the day we stepped into that place, our lives don’t belong to us anymore. I hope you’ll understand that!”
The woman stared at Ning Xi intently, to which Ning Xi stared back stubbornly. “I understand!”
“Mr. Pei had ordered me to book you a flight ticket to Sheen City. The flight is tonight.”
Ning Xi lifted her head immediately. “What did you say?”
“The flight is tonight. Ning Xi, you have violated Mr. Pei’s greatest taboo!”
