Chapter 539 Sisters
Shen Qianan was taken aback by Fu Chengyan’s actions. That was because he would never ask her such things even when they had no ill feelings toward each other. It was no wonder that Shen Qianan thought she had seen a ghost when Fu Chengyan talked to her so politely.
However, Shen Qianan thought about it and figured it was because of Shi Nuan. Shen Qianan nodded. “I have. How about you and Nuan?”
“We have.” Fu Chengyan nodded as well. Maybe it was because of his presence that the surrounding atmosphere was a bit weird. Shen Qianan still had a complicated relationship with him that she could not describe. Although she did not have any feelings toward him anymore, she felt awkward around him for she used to be crazy in love with him.
Fu Chengyan was not someone who did not know how to read the atmosphere. He turned his head to look at Shi Nuan, who nodded. “I feel like having some dessert. Could you buy some cake for me, Yan?”
Fu Chengyan looked deeply into Shi Nuan’s eyes. She scratched her head when she noticed how he was staring at her. Mirth bloomed in Fu Chengyan’s eyes and he nodded. “I’ll be back!” he said as he held Shi Nuan’s hands.
Fu Chengyan then glanced at Shen Qianan and Yu before leaving.
Shen Qianan was instantly relieved when Fu Chengyan left. Her reaction was noticed by Shi Nuan, who smiled. “Um… Come and sit, Qianan.”
Although they have already accepted each other as sisters, both of them still found it weird. However, neither of them thought that this change was a negative one. To be honest, after talking about it, things were not as awkward anymore.
Shi Nuan looked to be someone who adored kids. Before this, Shen Qianan had seen how Shi Nuan interacted with Cheng An. She knew that Shi Nuan would treat any child well.
Shi Nuan lightly pinched Yu’s hands. It was soft and warm. His hands were not the same as Cheng An’s daughter’s but were pretty similar to Bao’s. Bao was probably around the same age as Yu. Upon thinking of that, Shi Nuan’s gaze toward Yu softened.
When Shen Qianan saw their little interaction, she was delighted. She started talking about her childhood to Shi Nuan. Everyone was smart enough to avoid speaking of bad experiences.
Shen Qianan spoke about how she was actually treated very well by the Shen family. All of them were nice to her. It was only after she grew up that she found out she was the daughter of a mistress. Therefore, there was a period of time when she was very rebellious. Moreover, Shen Qianan was very afraid of Shen Shixiu when he returned. After causing a ruckus in the Shen family, Shen Qianan ran away.
Shen Qianan was young then. There was nothing she did not dare to do. However, after coming out and experiencing more, the world struck her.
“What about you? How did you and Fu Chengyan meet?” Shen Qianan was actually curious about why Fu Chengyan was so adamant about marrying Shi Nuan. Shen Qianan had been by Fu Chengyan’s side for many years and had experienced many things together with him. She thought that she knew Fu Chengyan like the back of her hand. However, Shen Qianan realized in the end that she did not know him at all.
Moreover, Shen Qianan had no idea when Fu Chengyan and Shi Nuan met. Logically, they should have met before Shen Qianan met him. Therefore, Shen Qianan was confident that she did not know about Shi Nuan during that time.
Thus, the only logical explanation was that Shi Nuan and Fu Chengyan met before Shen Qianan did. That would explain why Fu Chengyan was dumbfounded when she saved him. Although he did not say anything, he really treated Shen Qianan well during that period of time. Fu Chengyan would always agree to whatever she wanted.
Shen Qianan looked at Shi Nuan firmly. However, Shi Nuan was pretty confused about it herself. Because according to her own memories, Shi Nuan should have met Fu Chengyan after being betrayed by Fu Xicheng. Before that incident happened, Shi Nuan actually did not have any recollection of Fu Chengyan.
Shi Nuan was confident that her memory was not that bad. With how brilliant Fu Chengyan was, there was no way that she would not remember her first encounter with him.
Shi Nuan pursed her lips. She looked kind of anxious.
When Shen Qianan noticed Shi Nuan’s look, she quickly said, “It’s all right if you don’t want to talk about it. I don’t have to know. I was just asking.” At that moment in time, Shen Qianan had already put those things behind her.
Shi Nuan shook her head instead. “It’s not something that I can’t talk about. It’s just really odd because I can’t remember the first time we met. According to Yan, he had known me for a very long time, but the only memories I had of him were a year ago.”
The more she tried to think about it, the more tangled up her thoughts were. Shi Nuan was a bit troubled by it. “Maybe Fu Chengyan knew you, but you didn’t know him?” Shen Qianan quickly poured a cup of warm water for Shi Nuan. “Have a cup of water and relax. Don’t force yourself to think when you can’t remember.”
“You probably didn’t know this, but Yan was Granddad’s student. Granddad used to be a lecturer at Jing University. Yan was incredibly brilliant and skipped a few grades. He was only around fifteen or sixteen when he enrolled in the university. Granddad said that Yan left the country after studying for a year or two. I think I might have known him during that time. But I was probably around twelve then?” Upon speaking, Shi Nuan’s face had turned pale.
“Okay, you don’t have to remember if you can’t. You look happy with him right now. There’s no need to remember things that don’t matter.” When Shen Qianan saw how frustrated Shi Nuan was, Shen Qianan could not bear to let Shi Nuan think about it any further.
With a pale face, Shi Nuan nodded. “I’m sorry.”
“What nonsense are you speaking?” Shen Qianan smiled. “To be honest… I’m the one that’s feeling embarrassed in front of you.”
“Why?” Shi Nuan was surprised.
Shen Qianan looked at Yu climbing onto the bed. He clung to Shi Nuan and tugged her finger. “Aunt Nuan, you look as pretty as Mommy!”
Shi Nuan paused in shock for a moment before laughing. “You’re right. That’s cause I’m your mommy’s sister. If Mommy is pretty, I will be pretty too!” Shi Nuan could not stop herself from pinching Yu’s nose. However, Yu was unfazed by her explanation. Instead, he was slightly annoyed. “Why are you pinching my nose as Mommy does?”
Shi Nuan was dumbfounded, and she looked up at Shen Qianan. The latter had a similar expression but soon snapped out of it. “That’s ’cause you’re adorable Yu,” Shen Qianan said.
Shi Nuan reached out and pulled Yu into her embrace. She gently stroked Yu’s cheeks and forehead. “Qianan, Yu’s father…”
Shen Qianan fell silent for a moment. “I don’t know who he is.”
Shi Nuan nodded and no longer dwelled on the topic.
The sisters continued chatting the entire morning. Their conversations were random and bizarre. However, they seemed to grow closer to each other after it, no longer as estranged as how they were previously.
Meanwhile, Fu Chengyan and Su Shaoqing were in the room beside them watching the two women and the young child on the screen. It was rare that both of them had remained silent.
Su Shaoqing was holding Shi Nuan’s medical report in his hands. There was also a file at his side that contained the analysis of Su Huaibei’s blood sample. “Shu Qing is not here yet. I guess we can’t count on her anymore. Uncle Huaibei’s blood should be all right at the moment, but you have to know that his body won’t be able to–”
“I know.” Fu Chengyan interrupted Su Shaoqing’s sentence. “Why would I bring Shen Qianan over if I didn’t?”
Although Su Huaibei wanted to make it up to Shi Nuan, his body was not as good as he thought it was. If Su Huaibei was really going to force himself through this, there was a chance that not only would his body be affected, Shi Nuan would be as well. Fu Chengyan had always been someone who would only act if he was absolutely confident about it. If there was even a one in a million chance that things would go wrong, Fu Chengyan would not take the risk at all.
Su Shaoqing understood Fu Chengyan’s worries. “But you need to know that I haven’t tested this method out before. In other words, I don’t even know what the virus’ weak spot is. I’m not very confident about using this method on Nuan.” Moreover, Shi Nuan was pregnant with twins at that moment.
Fu Chengyan’s eyes darkened as he listened. “But I can’t afford to wait any longer.”
“If that’s the case, let’s go. We’ll first draw Shen Qianan’s blood to test if she’s compatible or not.” Su Shaoqing got up. He then suddenly thought of something and turned to look at Fu Chengyan. “Are you sure? To test it on her? You know that if we fail, Shen Qianan’s body might…”
Although Su Shaoqing was not very fond of Shen Qianan, she was still Su Huaibei’s daughter in the end, as well as Su Shaoqing’s sister.
Both Shi Nuan and Shen Qianan were his biological sisters. Su Shaoqing felt that this solution was kind of cruel.
Fu Chengyan’s eyes glinted darkly. “If we don’t do this, Fu Sijue would not show up.”
“Are you sure that by doing so, Fu Sijue will show up? Don’t forget that he had abducted Shen Qianan all those years ago. Although Shen Qianan had given birth, Fu Sijue did not even reappear after so long and left Shen Qianan and their child by themselves. It’s clear that this man’s self-control is very powerful.” Su Shaoqing was not afraid of anything. However, he thought that Fu Sijue was mentally very strong. With how he was able to endure so many years of being deployed, it was clear that Fu Sijue was not an impatient person.
Fu Chengyan’s method might not even bring Fu Sijue back. Instead, it might harm Shen Qianan.
Fu Chengyan glanced at Su Shaoqing coldly. “There is no other way,” he said sullenly. It was rare that he did not get angry.
“If he was able to pay so much attention to Shen Qianan and Yu during these three years, the two of them are definitely his weakness. You don’t have to persuade me anymore, Shaoqing.”
