Shi Nuan clearly felt the change in Fu Chengyan, and immediately pushed him away in embarrassment. “It’s getting late, so go and get your shower quickly. Get some rest soon!”

Shi Nuan calmed herself down before heading downstairs to get a glass of water to be placed by her bedside. Then, she went back to the room and lifted the covers and burrowed herself into bed. Even though it was already the end of spring and approaching the beginning of summer, the nights were still a little chilly. Fu Chengyan was worried that she would catch a cold now that she was pregnant, so their blanket was still a little thick. When she went under the covers she felt very warm and toasty.
She reached out for her mobile phone. As she randomly scrolled through WeChat, she checked out her friends’ social media posts as well. She saw that Su Shaoqing posted a picture of some delicious food and there seemed to be half a face captured in the picture. Shi Nuan could immediately recognize it to be Fu Ling.
Did they reconcile?
This was the first thing that appeared in Shi Nuan’s mind, and she immediately left a comment, “Ooooh, so when are we all meeting?”
Like a young internet addict, Su Shaoqing immediately shot back with a comment replying, “Just leave me alone!”
Shi Nuan raised her eyebrows. “You have not achieved your goal? Were you taking this photo secretly?”
“Where is your husband? It’s the middle of the night and you are up talking to a bachelor. Aren’t you worried that your husband might be jealous?”
Shi Nuan let out a snort of laughter, as she felt that Su Shaoqing was sometimes garrulous. She did not continue chatting with him. Just as she was about to log off WeChat, she saw a message from Shen Shixiu, “See you at South Mountain tomorrow!”
South Mountain?
Shi Nuan frowned. When did I agree to meet Shen Shixiu?
Shi Nuan thought for a while, and suddenly remembered what Fu Chengyan said in the afternoon, something about Shen Shixiu looking for her?
Shi Nuan scrolled up and saw that she had replied to Shen Shixiu. So… Fu Chengyan replied to his messages?
Shi Nuan hesitated a little and replied after looking towards the direction of the bathroom. “Mr. Shen, my husband was the one who replied to you this afternoon, and I just saw the messages. Oh yes, aren’t you scheduled to go back tomorrow? Will we be in time?”
Shen Shixiu paused as his eyes burned at Shi Nuan’s reply. With his inscrutable dark eyes, no one knew what he was thinking of at that very moment.
There was a knock on the door and Jiang Zhan pushed it open. “Sir, Yu is having a fever.”
Shen Shixiu frowned and immediately put his phone away. “Where is he?”
“Outside. Ms. Qianan is very worried!” Jiang Zhan said while looking at Shen Shixiu. The next thing he knew, Shen Shixiu had already dashed out so quickly that he was gone before Jiang Zhan could react.
When Shen Shixiu went over, he saw Shen Qianan carrying Yu with a worried face. When she saw Shen Shixiu, she went up to him anxiously, “Shixiu, Yu has a fever. What do we do?”
“Pass the child to me!” Shen Shixiu picked up Yu from Shen Qianan’s arms. He then looked at Jiang Zhan who had caught up with him. “Drive us to the hospital immediately!”
“Yes, Sir.”
Jiang Zhan drove very quickly especially after seeing Shen Qianan’s worried face. He sped through several traffic lights and when they reached the hospital entrance, Shen Shixiu immediately dashed into the hospital with Yu in his arms.
Shen Qianan froze as she watched Shen Shixiu, and the next thing she knew, Jiang Zhan had pulled her along.
“Where is the doctor on duty? There is a child with a fever here.”
Soon, the pediatrician came over and performed some procedures to lower Yu’s temperature, and prescribed some medicine as well. “If the fever does not subside in half an hour, she will need a jab, in case of a lung infection. Oh yes, is he allergic to any medication?”
The doctor looked up to Shen Shixiu and Shen Qianan. “Mommy and Daddy?”
Shen Shixiu blanked out and Shen Qianan was taken aback as well. “Ah, no, he is not allergic to anything. Thank you, Doctor!” Shen Qianan said while she looked at Shen Shixiu with fear. In the meantime, Shen Shixiu had already regained his composure and there was no expression on his face. However, it was obvious that he was relieved.
“Jiang Zhan, go with the doctor to get the medicine.”
“Yes, sir!”
“Thank you, Shixiu!” Shen Qianan was relieved too. “If not for you, I really won’t know what to do with Yu!”
When the doctor heard that, his eyes were drawn to Shen Shixiu and Shen Qianan. He was mildly embarrassed with the assumptions that he had made, and soon left with Jiang Zhan.
Soon, Shen Shixiu and Shen Qianan were the only ones left in the room. Shen Qianan was wiping Yu down very carefully, showing that she was really very loving towards Yu.
Shen Shixiu looked away and leaned against the side wall. He was silent for a while before saying, “You’ve really done a lot just to be able to stay behind!”
Shen Qianan’s hand stopped while she was wiping Yu’s forehead. A dark light flashed across her eyes before she said, “I don’t know what you are talking about!”
“Is Yu’s immune system that weak?” Shen Shixiu stared at Shen Qianan keenly. He looked at her coldly, “He ate the same food as you did this afternoon. Jiang Zhan brought it to you.”
“That’s enough, Shen Shixiu. What are you trying to insinuate? Yu is my child, do you think I am that cold-blooded to make him ill purposely? You heard what the doctor said, he probably just caught a cold. It is very normal for children to occasionally have a fever or to catch a cold!”
Shen Shixiu snorted but did not say anything in response.
However, his words caused Shen Qianan’s whole body to tremble while she began to lose control over her emotions. She could barely even control her fingers now.
Shen Shixiu moved his gaze away coldly and because of this, Shen Qianan avoided his gaze rather fearfully.
There was a ringing sound that came from his pocket. Shen Shixiu picked up his phone to realize that it was Shi Nuan. There was some hesitation in his eyes but he still picked up the call. “Hello!”
“Mr. Shen, it’s me, Shi Nuan!”
From the other side was Shi Nuan’s clear and warm voice. Shen Shixiu’s face grew gentler,. “Yes, Ms. Shi!”
Shi Nuan smiled. “Mr. Shen, actually you can call me Shi Nuan.”
“Alright! How can I help you?” Shen Shixiu’s voice was very gentle, which made Shi Nuan feel quite happy. “You haven’t replied to me about the earlier matter! My husband has just come back and said that he has already booked a place near the airport. This way we won’t delay your schedule as well.”
Shen Shixiu narrowed his eyes and his gaze fell on Shen Qianan, who looked away guiltily. She was feeling rather uneasy.
“Is that so? Seems like Mr. Fu has planned everything around my schedule. However, I don’t think I can leave tomorrow!”
“Oh? Why?” Shi Nuan was quite surprised by that change. “Has something urgent cropped up?”
“Yes, I am at the hospital now!”
“Hospital?” Shi Nuan was a little surprised. “Are you ill?” That did not seem right. Half an hour ago, Shen Shixiu had just asked her to go to South Mountain. It has just been half an hour, how could he have fallen ill between then?
Fu Chengyan was drying his hair when he heard Shi Nuan. He could not help but stop and looked at Shi Nuan quizzically.
“No, it’s not me, but Yu. He had a fever that refused to budge, and he cannot fly in this condition.” Shen Shixiu explained patiently.
Shi Nuan heard that it was Yu who was ill, and his timid face came to her mind. “Oh, it could be a serious matter if a child has a fever. Mr. Shen and Ms. Shen, you’d better take good care of Yu. We shall meet when he is better…”
“If you don’t mind, please allow me to treat you tomorrow.”
“Alright!”
Shi Nuan hung up and looked at Fu Chengyan. “Shen Shixiu says that Yu suddenly had a fever. The fever won’t budge, so they are not leaving tomorrow.”
A glare came out from his long eyes. He squinted and said, “Is that so?”
Shi Nuan nodded. “Yes, it is. It is the worst when children are ill. However, Shen Shixiu says he will treat us to South Mountain tomorrow. Do you want to come along?”
“Haven’t you already agree?” Fu Chengyan smiled and caressed her hair. “What’s the point of asking me now?”
“Hey what does that mean? Somebody snuck a look at my phone when I was sleeping and you agreed to it yourself, so how can you blame me?” Shi Nuan smacked Fu Chengyan’s hand. “Yan, are you unhappy?”
“No!” Fu Chengyan swept Shi Nuan into his arms. “I’m not unhappy!” He was just thinking whether this could be a setup by Shen Qianan.
In the meantime, Shen Shixiu’s eyes met Shen Qianan’s face which was smiling faintly when he hung up. Shen Shixiu frowned. “Why are you staring at me?”
“Shixiu, are you still denying your feelings for Shi Nuan? When you were talking to her, you were a completely different person. I’ve never seen you treat anyone like that before!”
Shen Shixiu frowned. “Don’t think that you know me so well!”
“Turns out you are a scaredy cat!” Shen Qianan snorted. “I thought you were someone who were brave enough to love. There’s nothing embarrassing when you like someone. She is an attractive woman after all. However, I think Fu Chengyan is a lot more energetic than you are.”
“Shut up!” Shen Shixiu’s sharp eyes fell onto Shen Qianan. “It’s better that you do not poke your nose into my affairs that much.
“You think I want to do that?” Shen Qianan looked away. “Is that all? I think nothing more than this. Shi Nuan is already married, and nothing can happen between the two of you no matter what. A man like Fu Chengyan will never allow another person to have their eye on his woman.”
