Fu Chengyan sat on the sofa and waved at Shi Nuan for her to come to him. He pulled Shi Nuan into his embrace and sat Shi Nuan down on his lap. Then, he took Shi Nuan’s hand in his and pinched her fingertips. “You silly girl! Why do you think so much?”
Shi Nuan pouted. “I’m not stupid! It’s because he’s your Grandpa.” Or else, I won’t even waste so much energy talking to him.
Fu Chengyan then pinched Shi Nuan’s nose. “I swear, I didn’t purposely ask him here because I have a feeling you will be at the office. But since things are going in the right direction, isn’t it a good thing that you two met just now?”
“Okay, whatever.” Shi Nuan lowered her eyelids as her eyes focused on Fu Chengyan’s fingertips. She copied Fu Chengyan’s actions and found that his fingers were much thicker than hers.
Fu Chengyan did not respond. He watched on as Shi Nuan played with his fingers. He just found Shi Nuan acting like a kid kind of entertaining. It softened his heart a little.
“What did the doctor say?”
Shi Nuan pursed her lips. “Yu Qing said everything’s fine. My vital signs are all alright. She did ask me to rest more. Oh, she also asked me to exercise more and not laze at home.” Shi Nuan spoke her last sentence with much emphasis as she looked at Fu Chengyan meaningfully.
Fu Chengyan chuckled helplessly. “Alright, you can do anything you want, as long as you are careful. I can’t be by your side all the time. It’s different now you have two little humans inside you now.”
“Okay, okay!” Shi Nuan flailed her arms around in slight frustration. “Why are you yammering like a grumpy old fart? You’re even worse than both your Grandpa and my Grandpa combined!” Shi Nuan then paused for a while. “Are we really moving in to Fu Residence?”
Fu Chengyan only nodded in silence.
Shi Nuan was confused. “But why?”
It’s not like Shi Nuan minded staying at the Fu Residence. It’s because she didn’t want to deal with the complicated matters that would arise during her stay there. Other than Fu Zhengyun, there was also Fu Sheng whom Shi Nuan was unclear whether he was a friend or foe. Also, her grandmother-in-law Song Zhenyan hated her to the bones. Shi Nuan doubted that staying at Fu Residence was a wise choice.
“Just listen to me.” Fu Chengyan prodded the heart of Shi Nuan’s palm. “I’ll never let anything bad happen to you!”
“Okay then,” Shi Nuan saw the confidence in Fu Chengyan’s expression and agreed.
She had her hands on Fu Chengyan’s shoulders for support as she tried to settle into a comfortable position. Suddenly, she questioned, “Oh, right! You know who I bumped into at the hospital today?”
“Who?”
Fu Chengyan stared at Shi Nuan curiously. “You bumped into an international movie star?”
Shi Nuan shook her head. She replied, “Yes, it’s a star, but she’s yet to become an international movie star. It’s Shi Wei.”
Fu Chengyan’s oval eyes squinted with precaution. “Did she bully you?”
“Nah, she didn’t.” Shi Nuan found Fu Chengyan’s response quite hilarious. “Do you think she still dares to bully me openly?”
Fu Chengyan nodded and combed Shi Nuan’s messy hair with his fingers. “Then, did she do anything to you?”
“She didn’t even saw me,” Shi Nuan remained silent for a while and mulled over her decision to tell Fu Chengyan about what happened. She bit her lips. “Shi Wei is there for a consultation.”
“Hmm?” Fu Chengyan arched one brow. “What illness does she have?”
“She was there to see an ob-gyn.” Shi Nuan leaned in and uttered into Fu Chengyan’s ear. Fu Chengyan’s lips curled up into a crescent.
Shi Nuan smirked. “Did Xinhuang not give her enough resources?”
Fu Chengyan chuckled. “I’ll have someone look into it.”
Shi Nuan nodded. “Sure, but just to make things clear, I actually have nothing against her.” Even though Shi Wei treated Shi Nuan poorly, the two of them were sisters after all. Other than Shi Wei, Jiang Yu and Shi Jingzheng were the two other people from the Shi family who were mean to Shi Nuan. Still, there was Shi Yunsheng who doted Shi Nuan a lot. Now, Shi Nuan figured that no matter what Shi Wei had done to her, Shi Wei was still technically her sister. Thus, Shi Nuan was willing to help Shi Wei if she got into any trouble.
Fu Chengyan was aware of Shi Nuan’s sentiments. However, he was sure that Shi Wei had not treated Shi Nuan as her sister when she was hurting Shi Nuan. Shi Nuan just had a completely different personality from her sister.
Fu Chengyan caressed Shi Nuan’s silky hair and laid a finger on Shi Nuan’s forehead. “Alright. I know what you want. I’ll have Zhou Zheng look into it. Rest assured, nothing will happen to Shi Wei.”
“Okay!”
When it was time to get off work, Fu Zhengyun was worried that Fu Chengyan and Shi Nuan wouldn’t go to the Fu Residence. Thus, he sent people to fetch them from Shengyuan.
After clocking out from the office, Fu Chengyan and Shi Nuan went to get their car from the underground parking. Out of their expectations, there was someone waiting for them there.
It was the butler of the Fu Residence. Fu Chengyan pinched his glabella. “Why are you here?”
“Young Master Chengyan, the Old Master wants me to fetch you and… Young Mistress Shi Nuan to the Fu Residence.” The butler paused for a while before turning to Shi Nuan. “I hope your day has been great, Young Mistress!”
Shi Nuan was shocked. Shi Nuan didn’t expect the butler to address her by Young Mistress at all. The butler served Fu Zhengyun for ages, which spoke volumes of how trustworthy he was.
Shi Nuan tucked her lips in and nodded. “Nice to meet you, Mr. Yuan.”
“Young Master, please get on the car!” The old butler spoke deferentially as the driver got to his seat. “Old Master wants me to inform you that someone will be going to the Wutong Residence to pack up both your belongings. Also, the Fu Residence has everything! There’s nothing to worry about,” the butler said with his eyes glued to Fu Chengyan. He was waiting for Fu Chengyan’s reply.
Fu Chengyan didn’t have any opinions about it. He held Shi Nuan’s hands and led her onto the car.
The butler let out a breath of relief.
He thought he’d have to persuade Fu Chengyan into coming with him, but it turned out that he was overthinking.
Fu Chengyan and Shi Nuan sat somewhere outside the vision of the driver and the butler.
After the couple had settled down, the butler got onto the seat next to the driver. Then, he spoke clear and loud to the couple, “Dinner will be served at the Fu Residence. Young Master Chengyan, we have prepared a lot of your favorite dishes!” He paused for a while and continued, “The chefs at the Fu Residence were in charge of Mrs. Fu’s and Madam Ning’s diets when they were pregnant too. Young Mistress Shi Nuan, please be assured that the food we have will be suitable for an expectant mother like you.”
“Thank you, butler!” Shi Nuan smiled politely. It would be rude of her to turn the butler down as he had been nothing but thoughtful.
However, Shi Nuan now supposed that earlier on, Fu Chengyan had purposely let her bump into Fu Zhengyun. Fu Chengyan must have known that Fu Zhengyun would order the couple to stay at the Fu Residence if the latter learned that Shi Nuan was pregnant with the Fu family’s children. Fu Chengyan knew well that the children in Shi Nuan’s stomach were the key to everything, including the bitter feud between Shi Nuan and Fu Zhengyun.
Shi Nuan’s eyes unwittingly went to Fu Chengyan. At the moment, Fu Chengyan was in a pleasant mood. Of course he was, seeing that everything had gone the way he anticipated.
Shi Nuan writhed her lips and sighed. Fu Chengyan heard her and asked, “What is it, darling? You don’t want to go?”
Shi Nuan shook her head in haste. “Nope.”
On a side note, Shi Nuan was getting more and more impressed by Fu Chengyan. He could easily sense every expression of Shi Nuan no matter how minuscule it was.
Fu Chengyan nodded in response. “Okay, but if you don’t want to live there, you can tell me anytime. Also if we don’t find the place to our liking, we can move into the other properties Uncle Heng bought for me.”
“It’s okay!” Shi Nuan didn’t know how to react to Fu Chengyan’s words. “There’s no need to move. I think the Fu Residence is fine. There are so many servants around to look after us! If anything, it will only make my life easier, so why not?”
Fu Chengyan narrowed his eyes. There was something on his mind.
The butler in front overheard Fu Chengyan and Shi Nuan’s conversation and was astounded. Is this still the Young Master I know? He’s changed so much ever since he got together with that girl!
It’s like… he’s more human now!
Very soon, they reached the Fu Residence. There were already a few servants awaiting their arrival at the gates. Each of the pointy edges or corners in the Fu Residence was wrapped up with thick pieces of cloth. These changes were most likely requested by Fu Zhengyun, who was all too enthusiastic to welcome his great-grandchildren.
Fu Chengyan helped Shi Nuan off the car. At once, Shi Nuan realized the building in front of her was nothing like before. Fu Chengyan arched his brow. He could notice the stark differences right away too.
The old butler seemed to notice their expressions and hurriedly explained, “Old Master said since Young Mistress is pregnant, all of the sharp edges in the house have to be covered. It’s bad luck according to Feng Shui. After all, Shi Nuan’s children are going to be his first great-grandchildren. Old Master just wants to…”
The butler didn’t continue his words, but everyone could finish his sentence in their heads.
Even though Fu Zhengyun didn’t like Shi Nuan, now that she was pregnant, he had to accept her for the sake of the children in her tummy.
Fu Chengyan squiggled his lips and glanced around. “May, let’s head in!”
“Okay, let’s go!” Shi Nuan was pretty excited. Even though Fu Zhengyun was willing to compromise only because of her unborn children, Shi Nuan didn’t mind at all. Being the Fu family’s descendants didn’t change the fact that she was their mother.
Since Fu Zhengyun wanted to take a step back, Shi Nuan was not going to complain.
“Let’s go!” Fu Chengyan saw the joyous grin on Shi Nuan’s face and couldn’t help but smile. Then, he took Shi Nuan inside.
To Shi Nuan’s surprise, the interior of the Fu Residence changed even more than its exterior. Everything was altered to be more kid-friendly. The rugs were non-slip, and almost all of the furniture sported a round, padded edge.
Shi Nuan was slightly stunned. She almost couldn’t feel herself when she landed her foot inside the house. She tilted her head to Fu Chengyan’s ears and whispered, “This is so crazy!”
